Sadly, this is one of a few games that ';officially'; doesn't support the 360 controller...

Thankfully The guys over at http://www.pinnaclegameprofiler.com/ have a handy piece of software that can emulate the keyboard and mouse using a controller pad.

I'm sure this will help, once you go on over to the site provided all will become much clearer. How do i use normal xbox 360 controller on my laptop to play call of duty 5 world at war?
To play on your lap top with an xbox remote, what you have to do first is buy a wired remote, unlike the wireless remotes that come with and xbox. After this you plug your wired controller into your usb port and wait for it to install,

now you can install the apropriate buttons and you are finished

have fun!
Uh, I Know There Is Software You Can Buy For It To detect It, Im Not Sure IF Theres Downloadable Stuff, But I Am Sure You can just plug in a WIRED xbox 360 controller and play right away, It has to be wired, not plugged in with play-and-charge. Hope It helped.

Try Microsoft.com they might have something, or google it
u must buy a wired 1.
